Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 105 – Secret of Oneness
Verse - Secret of Oneness
Jesus said, “Whoever knows father and mother will be called the son of a prostitute.”
Comment
This saying, which is linked to the previous saying on the one hand and to a denigration of Jesus by the Jews on the other, underlines once again how the awakened person differs from the unawakened, who do not understand him or do not want to understand him when he speaks of his oneness with the Father and refers to him, but ask him: "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered them: "You know neither me nor my Father. You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world."
The Jews try to counter this rejection with the objection: "We were not born out of wedlock; we have a Father, God," to which Jesus replied: "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from Him... You do not know Him, but I know Him." Only those who are one with Him can recognize and know the Father. The unawakened, who know neither the Father nor the Mother - the Holy Spirit through whom man is reborn - and know nothing of the secret of oneness, mockingly call the awakened one illegitimate because he claims his divine birth.
They do not understand that He, the One who has become selfless, is free from earthly ties and without sin. This is precisely what the Lord's Word above states: The unawakened do not understand the awakened one and his oneness with the One because they are still divided, because they are neither one with themselves nor with the Father.
