Meditation in the Cemetery – Learning to live and die properly – Holy Place!

Grüezi and welcome to open meditation in the cemetery. The cemetery is a place where many people feel a meditative or even spiritual atmosphere. Zen Master Reding also experienced this when he was a novice in Japan and had to meditate during the night in the monastery cemetery.

For ten years he trained as a Zen monk in Japan and Korea and founded the Zen Academy in Einsiedeln in 2014. In September 2017 he invited for the first time to take part in an open meditation he led in the cemetery. That was well received and will therefore continue.

The meditation takes place twice a year (spring & autumn)

Contemplation - Meditation in the Cemetery

The motivation for you to be here is because you happen to be aware of some tasks with yourself. This is not like a movie theater where you go to be entertained. That is why you became the kind of person that you are. You became better because you study; because you work on it. You put yourself out of your ignorance and stood up for wisdom but you still get confused. To sacrifice your ego for your future self.

Meditate inwardly on spiritual stillness. When bad circumstances trouble the mind, be alert lest anger arise. When you see things you like, be alert lest greed arise. Injure yourselves with the weapons of negative words, be alert lest your ears deceive you. If you live with friends, be vigilant lest jealousy arise. When you are worshiped, be careful not to become proud.

At All Times: Tame the evil demons in one's mind, meditate on all four pursuits. Why is it necessary to exert such an effort? Because the patriarchs of the past as well the as the wise teachers of today have all said the same thing.

The great Teaching is basically quite ordinary. It is easy to enter for those with sharp faculties and quick wits and broad penetration who do not use their intellectual brilliance to try to comprehend it.

The usual problem is if you are overloaded with conditioned knowledge and arbitrary views. Then when you try to approach this source, the more you delve into it, the farther away you get, and you are completely unable to penetrate through.
